Students begin the unit by brainstorming: “Math, What Good is it Anyway?” Students investigate, discover the patterns, and formulate the rules that result from performing the 4 basic operations with integers. Students brainstorm and research real-life situations in which positive and negative integers are used. Students use their discovered knowledge with integers to write and solve equations for real life problems involving integers. Students may also opt to do a WebQuest as an alternative unit activity.
